The glaze is intact across the whole surface, carrying the fine even craquelure the technique is made for, with light wear consistent with age and use.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eChinese potters learned centuries ago to cool a glazed vessel at a rate that opens a fine web of lines across the entire surface, and to treat that web as the decoration itself. The technique has been worked continuously ever since, and the best of it reads as depth held inside the glaze.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTwo dragons move around the body in raised relief, carried through cloud scrolls above a band of stylised waves at the foot. The green glaze pools dark in the recesses and thins to a warm buff along every raised line, which is what gives the modelling its definition and the surface its movement as you turn it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe interior holds the ridges of the wheel and is left unglazed, the way this form has always been finished.
