The furniture that came out of those workshops in the fifties and sixties was built for rooms that wanted weightless decoration.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis Italian base was forged that way. Ribbons of iron curl at every junction where the stretcher meets the uprights, and the gilding has softened unevenly over six decades, so the surface catches light differently depending on where you stand.
