Diego Giacometti built furniture in the Paris studio he shared with his brother Alberto, who filled the same rooms with sculpture. He became known as a master of patina for the greens and bronzes he drew out of metal, surfaces made to read as aged the moment they left his hand. His final commission was a full suite of furniture and lighting for the Musée Picasso, finished the year he died.
This table was built to honor their tradition, in the workshops of Paris and Los Angeles where his methods carried on after him by local artists. The maker's name for this table went unrecorded, as it often does with this work. What remains is the evidence of their work: a hand-painted verdigris patina base beneath a beveled glass top and a captivating silhouette.
