Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The engraving is crisp throughout, with a warm unpolished patina and light surface marks consistent with age and handling.
Brass has been worked by hand in northern India for centuries, and the finest of that work was never cast into its detail but cut into it afterward, with steel points driven along the surface one stroke at a time. Camels entered that repertoire as a subject that travelled well, familiar to every market the brass itself moved through.
Each of these carries a bordered panel across the saddle, engraved with palms and a domed roofline inside frames of dentil banding, and an eight-point star cut into either haunch. The tool angle shifts from panel to panel and the border bands run at slightly different pitches, which is the evidence of a hand rather than a die.
They were made as a graduated pair and still read as one composition, the smaller following the larger with its head raised at the same angle.

You will choose how you would like to receive your piece at checkout. After every purchase we will email you within two business days to begin coordinating. Timelines for pickup, delivery, and shipping vary by piece and by destination, and we will confirm those with you directly.
Pickup: Available by appointment in Mount Washington, Los Angeles 90065. After your order is placed, we will email the exact address and coordinate a time.
Furniture: Arrange your own mover, or we will send recommendations for trusted third-party delivery companies serving Los Angeles. For destinations outside Southern California, many of our customers have used U-Ship. Delivery companies are third-party and independent of Sojourn Vintage. Quotes, scheduling, liability, and payment are handled directly with them. Delivery costs are not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total.
Smalls and decor: We coordinate packing and shipping. We will contact you with the final cost, which is paid before your piece ships and is not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total. Local customers can choose pickup for smalls and decor.
