Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Structurally sound throughout, with a warm surface patina consistent with age.

The Brettstuhl is among the oldest chair forms in Europe: a plank seat, turned legs driven straight into it, and a single shaped board rising from the back. Alpine carpenters built them for centuries through the valleys of Tyrol, cutting a grip into the crest so a chair could be lifted in one hand and carried to wherever it was wanted. Every line of it came from use.

This pair carries that silhouette into the twentieth century, when renewed interest in Alpine folk work brought the form back into workshops. The backs are shaped and pierced in the old way, the legs turned and fluted, the seats laid as planks across a sledge base.

You will choose how you would like to receive your piece at checkout. After every purchase we will email you within two business days to begin coordinating. Timelines for pickup, delivery, and shipping vary by piece and by destination, and we will confirm those with you directly.

Pickup: Available by appointment in Mount Washington, Los Angeles 90065. After your order is placed, we will email the exact address and coordinate a time.

Furniture: Arrange your own mover, or we will send recommendations for trusted third-party delivery companies serving Los Angeles. For destinations outside Southern California, many of our customers have used U-Ship. Delivery companies are third-party and independent of Sojourn Vintage. Quotes, scheduling, liability, and payment are handled directly with them. Delivery costs are not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total.

Smalls and decor: We coordinate packing and shipping. We will contact you with the final cost, which is paid before your piece ships and is not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total. Local customers can choose pickup for smalls and decor.
