Rock Cross is an award-winning sculptural furniture designer and master craftsman - the visionary who brought The Spiral to life. The remarkable, free-flowing objects that Rock creates embody his philosophy of "furniture as art". This too is the essence of our latest collection and every artform that we strive to source for you here at Sojourn Vintage.
For over 50 years, Rock's incredibly rare and prestigious designs have been sought after by art collectors, architects, designers, and even royalty. The King of Morocco commissioned two of Rock's designs to be displayed in his palace.
Captivated by the vibrant, organic labyrinth that is this sculptural table, we took to the sculptor's own writings for a glimpse into his artistic process.
“What I am attempting is to elevate furniture design to a pure art form, to make completely new statements in furniture form and movement. I am reminded of the threadlike interior of a breaking wave, or the perfect parabolic arc of a rainbow’s singular separate lines or the thread-like veins of a leaf. It is organic, inviting touch, like a beautiful body.“
Through a woodworking technique used by furniture craftsmen since the 18th century, Rock hand-built The Spiral Table by layering fine pieces of Obeche wood from Ghana, Italian Maple, and Birch from Finland. He conjoined the materials in alternating directions of wood texture and tones while hand sculpting the form to reveal his final design.
Elegance comes in how the wood is seemingly woven together and spun upward rising out of the floor, confounding the senses. The Spiral evokes a new emotion with each glance, it lends a new story with the shift of an angle, and, much like the natural world from which it came, it is both grounding and expansive in its totality. That is art.

Please review these terms before completing your purchase.
You will choose how you would like to receive your piece at checkout. After every purchase we will email you within two business days to begin coordinating. Timelines for pickup, delivery, and shipping vary by piece and by destination, and we will confirm those with you directly.
Pickup: Available by appointment in Mount Washington, Los Angeles 90065. After your order is placed, we will email the exact address and coordinate a time.
Furniture: Delivery is arranged and paid for by the customer. You choose, book and pay the mover or carrier directly. We can send names of companies other customers have used, provide any specs you need, and coordinate the handoff. Many customers shipping outside Southern California use U-Ship. Movers and carriers are third-party and independent of Sojourn Vintage — quotes, scheduling, liability and payment are handled directly with them. Delivery costs are not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total.
Smalls and decor: We coordinate packing and shipping. We will contact you with the final cost, which is paid before your piece ships and is not included in your Sojourn Vintage order total. Local customers can choose pickup for smalls and decor.
